Sir Savien Traliard was the subject of the song sung by Kvothe at the Eolian bar to win his talent pipes. The full name of the song was The Lay of Sir Savien Traliard. It is unknown if the character was created by the songwriter Illien, or the song is a telling of a historical figure.
We are told that he spent six years with the Amyr: three years proving himself, three years training, before coming back to Aloine in the seventh year.
- "Six. Three years proving himself, three years training."
- "But six years with the Amyr means he came back to Aloine on the seventh year."
It is implied that he went to find Aloine (perhaps after his time with the Amyr):
- Finally, filled with despair, I decided Aloine could do the finding this time, and damn the story.
- Please, if either of us is Savien, it’s me. I’m the one that came looking for you
The story is a tragedy, and their love is lost, suggesting they are seperated, perhaps by death:
- I cried for Sir Savien and Aloine, for love lost and found and lost again, at cruel fate and man’s folly.
