- "Do you know the seven words that will make a woman love you? "
- ―Elodin to Kvothe during his first Admissions interview [1]
- "There are seven words that will make a person love you."
- ―Elodin, to Kvothe during his Naming training [1]
Description[]
There are seven words that will make a person love you. Though the Master Namer, Elodin, alludes to these words at several points in Kvothe's education, the exact words remain a mystery.
In The Chronicle[]
The Name of the Wind[]
During Kvothe's first Admissions interview at The University the Master Namer, Elodin asked three questions. His third question was about the seven words. When Kvothe admits he does not know, Elodin assures him that they exist.
During Naming training, Elodin reminds Kvothe about the seven words and references a few other combinations of words that have power over people:
- "It is a word. Words are pale shadows of forgotten names. As names have power, words have power. Words can light fires in the minds of men. Words can wring tears from the hardest hearts. There are seven words that will make a person love you. There are ten words that will break a strong man's will. But a word is nothing but a painting of a fire. A name is the fire itself."
- ―Elodin, The Name of the Wind [1]
Possible Seven Word Combinations[]
Throughout the story characters--Kvothe in particular--often use seven-word combinations when speaking to one another. They are as follows:
- "I was wondering what you're doing here."
- ―Kvothe to Denna during their first encounter [1]
- "I need you to breathe for me."
- ―Kvothe to Denna after speaking the Name of the Wind when she couldn't breathe [2]
