Roent is a hardworking Cealdish trader. He is the leader of the caravan that Kvothe rode in from Tarbean to the University. Leading the caravan with him was his wife, Reta. Together they keep order in the caravan with an iron regime. Under his gruff exterior, Roent is actually kind and generous; seen in his indirect gift of a copper penny to Kvothe.
