Grandmother of Vashet, Magwyn gives Kvothe the name Maedre, which can mean The Flame, The Thunder or The Broken Tree. Later, she helped Kvothe memorize the history and names of the carriers of his sword, Caesura.
Magwyn is a historian and namer for the Haert village, as well as a grandmother to Vashet. Managing the various scrolls containing the history of the ancient swords used by the Adem, such as Ceasura. Magwyn also is a namer for students of the Sword Tree, and gave Kvothe his name Maedre in a ceremonial fashion.
