Fren was a member of the Fake Edema Ruh Troupe. He was a singer in the troupe, and was good friends with Josh. He frequently made jokes about sex and homosexuality. When he heard Tim shout out he left his wagon, which he shared with Josh. Kvothe killed him with Caesura, either stabbing him in the head or the stomach.[2]
