Chemistry is one of the few fields of study at the University that seems to be largely identical in the Chronicle to the way it works in reality. Although it is a field that operates under the purview of Master Mandrag , the Master Alchemist , it is made clear on multiple occasions that Alchemy is vastly different from Chemistry, and in fact the most important detail about Chemistry within the Chronicle may be that a knowledge of the basics of it does not in any way give you insight into Alchemy. More than once, Simmon berates Kvothe for assuming he knows something of Alchemy based on his rudimentary grasp of Chemistry.
