I am going to start from number three. My third favorite character is Auri. The manner in which she says the things that she does with such conviction, all with the most innocent of intentions. Her character is written perfectly if you think of her as "walking the border of sanity." I find that absolutely fascinating.
Second would have to be Elodin. I guess we are running with my theme of bordering insanity. It's easy to look at him and think that he just says the things that pop into his head, AND HE DOES. However, it all leads to a point and has purpose. No matter how ridiculous sounding his conversations are there is such profound wisdom in reference to the world we are reading about.
Kvothe is (I know, cliche...) by far my favorite character. I suspect it's mostly the first person view of the story where we see what goes through his mind and I love the sharp wit and silk words. He's everything you want from a hero. He's passionate and determined, charismatic yet clueless, caring and confident. He also has beautifully realistic flaws. His temper is hot and his fuse is short, he cares so much about what people think of him and yet continues to forge on even when he feels like he has lost. He's terrible at reading the advances of women. He's the perfect storybook hero and I am giddy to read the next part of his journey.
